How to connect a liquidity provider to MT5
Prices reach MetaTrader 5 from an LP in one of two ways: a gateway the LP supplies, or a liquidity bridge that takes the LP over FIX and feeds MT5 through a datafeed. The steps are the same either way: get the connection details, open the session, map symbols, connect MT5 and check prices before clients see them.
Two ways to get LP prices into MT5
Both end in the same place: a module inside your MT5 server that receives quotes.
The LP’s own gateway
Many LPs supply an MT5 gateway for their liquidity. It links one LP to one MT5 server, with symbols and spreads set inside MT5. Simple, until you need a second LP or platform.
A bridge and a datafeed
A liquidity bridge holds the FIX session with each LP, maps symbols and applies spreads, then streams finished prices into MT5 through a datafeed. The same prices can also feed MT4, web and FIX clients.
Not sure which you need? Liquidity bridge vs MT5 gateway walks through when each one fits.
What to ask your LP for
Collect these before anyone touches a server. Most failed first connections come from one of them missing.
- Host and portExample:The address of the LP’s market data session, such as fix.lp-example.com and 9881Why it matters:Where the bridge or gateway logs on
- SenderCompID and TargetCompIDExample:Your ID and theirs, such as BROKER_MD and LP_MDWhy it matters:Swapped IDs are the most common reason a session will not log on
- Username and passwordExample:Only if the LP uses them, sent at logonWhy it matters:Some LPs rely on your fixed IP alone
- Symbol listExample:The LP’s names, such as EUR/USD or EURUSD.x, with digitsWhy it matters:Every symbol has to be mapped to your MT5 names
- Message typeExample:Full snapshots or incremental updatesWhy it matters:Not every bridge reads both; confirm before you start
- Heartbeat and reset scheduleExample:For example 30 seconds, with a weekly sequence resetWhy it matters:So a planned reset is not mistaken for an outage
- Test environmentExample:A UAT session with its own host and IDsWhy it matters:Lets you prove the setup before live prices
Most LPs stream prices over FIX 4.4. If FIX is new to you, FIX API for brokers explains sessions, CompIDs and the messages involved.
Six steps from LP to Market Watch
In this order. Each step depends on the one before.
- 01
Allow-list your IP
Send the LP the fixed public IP your bridge or MT5 server connects from. Most LPs refuse sessions from anywhere else.
- 02
Open the FIX session
Enter the host, port and CompIDs, then log on. A good bridge tests DNS, the TCP connection and a real logon before the session goes live.
- 03
Map the symbols
Match each LP symbol to the name your MT5 server uses, such as EUR/USD to EURUSD.r, and check the digits agree.
- 04
Set your spreads
Decide whether MT5 receives raw LP prices with spreads set in MT5 groups, or prices already marked up per server by the bridge.
- 05
Install the datafeed
Copy the datafeed module into the Datafeed folder of your MT5 History Server. It runs inside MT5 and receives the finished prices.
- 06
Connect it in MT5 Administrator
Add the datafeed to the History Server, enter the bridge address, port and login, set the mode to quotes, add your symbols and enable it.
Checks before clients see the prices
A connection that logs on is not yet a connection you can trade on.
Quotes move in MT5
Every mapped symbol updates in Market Watch on a test terminal, with the digits you expect.
Prices match the LP
Compare a few symbols against the LP’s raw prices. Any gap should be exactly your markup.
Stale symbols are caught
Pause a symbol or disconnect the session on purpose and make sure an alert reaches someone.
Closed markets stay quiet
Trading hours are set, so weekend and holiday gaps do not raise alarms or show frozen quotes.
Reconnects are automatic
After a drop or the LP’s scheduled reset, the session and the MT5 datafeed come back on their own.
Demo before live
Point a demo MT5 server at the feed first, and move live groups over once a full trading week looks clean.
What about trades?
Prices and trades can take different paths, and often do.
A datafeed brings quotes into MT5 and nothing else. How client trades are executed depends on your model: B-book trades stay on your MT5 server, and A-book trades go to an LP through an execution gateway or a bridge that routes orders. Many brokers take prices from a bridge and keep the LP’s gateway for execution.
Deciding what to pass on and what to keep is covered in A-book vs B-book vs hybrid.
In XiroLink
From LP session to MT5 Market Watch
XiroLink holds the FIX 4.4 session with each LP, tests the logon before it goes live and proposes symbol mappings automatically. Its MT5 datafeed is a native module on the Gateway API: copy it into your History Server, connect it in MT5 Administrator and prices arrive already mapped and marked up per server.
XiroLink handles prices, not orders, so trades stay with your MT5 server and the execution setup you already use.

How do I connect a liquidity provider to MT5?
Get the LP’s FIX connection details and allow-list your fixed IP, open the FIX session from a bridge or the LP’s gateway, map the LP’s symbols to your MT5 names, then connect MT5 through a datafeed in the History Server and check that quotes arrive.
Do I need a bridge to connect an LP to MT5?
Not for one LP and one MT5 server, if the LP supplies a gateway. A bridge becomes the simpler option when you add a second LP, a second platform such as MT4 or a web terminal, or your own spreads per server.
How long does it take?
With the LP’s details in hand, the technical setup takes hours rather than days. Most of the wait is on the LP side: agreements, IP allow-listing and a test session.
What does the LP need from me?
Usually your fixed public IP to allow-list, the symbols you want, and agreement on the session details such as CompIDs and the reset schedule. Commercial onboarding comes first.
Does the datafeed send my trades to the LP?
A datafeed only brings quotes into MT5. Trades are executed through your MT5 server’s own setup, such as a gateway your LP supplies.
