Volatility compares the day's range with its 20 day average. 1 Month range shows where the close sits between the month's low (0%) and high (100%).

Market volatility by group

Crypto has the widest intraday conditions in this data set. BTCUSD has a 4.02% day range and is running at 1.42 times its 20 day average range. ETHUSD shows a 4.65% day range at 1.19 times normal, while SOLUSD is at 4.95% and 1.06 times normal. XRPUSD is also active, with a 4.33% day range and 1.03 times its 20 day average.

Metals are active but split. XAUUSD has a 2.09% day range, 1.28 times its 20 day average, and sits at 74% of its 20 day range. XAGUSD has a wider 2.95% day range but is only at 0.82 times its 20 day average, showing that today is not unusually large against its recent silver range.

FX is quieter than crypto and metals. EURUSD is down 0.20% on the day but remains at 64% of its 20 day range. GBPUSD is down 0.13% and sits high in its 20 day range at 88%. USDJPY is down 0.19% and at 69%. AUDUSD is the livelier FX pair, with a 0.72% day range and 1.27 times its 20 day average.

FX, metals and crypto positioning

The FX board shows different points in the 20 day range. GBPUSD remains close to the upper end at 88%, helped by a 20 day gain of 1.53%. EURUSD is at 64% after a 20 day gain of 0.10%. USDCAD and USDCHF sit much lower, at 15% and 13%, with 20 day moves of minus 1.63% and minus 1.96%.

In metals, gold is firmer short term but still down 1.04% over 20 days. Silver is up 6.58% over 5 days, yet down 11.27% over 20 days and only at 35% of its 20 day range. That combination can create sharp client interest while the broader metal trend still looks uneven.

Crypto positioning is lower in its 20 day range. BTCUSD is at 26%, ETHUSD at 46%, SOLUSD at 15% and XRPUSD at 39%. Daily moves are negative across the group, with BTCUSD down 2.99%, ETHUSD down 3.64%, SOLUSD down 2.98% and XRPUSD down 2.14%.

Broker action points

For brokers, the practical issue is not just direction, it is range versus normal. Wider crypto ranges can justify closer checks on spread limits, markups and exposure controls. Review spread controls and markups where instruments are above their 20 day range average.

Risk teams should watch house exposure in crypto and metals, especially where clients are adding into instruments near the lower end of their 20 day range. Use coverage and house book exposure views to confirm whether flow is balanced or concentrated.

Dealing desks should also keep monitoring and alerts active for stale prices, feed health and liquidity gaps during wider ranges. If your stack uses XiroLink, check LP aggregation, markups, Centroid compatible FIX, market data and monitoring settings against these conditions.
