Price sources and failover
Choose per symbol between a single maker, the best price across makers or priority with failover, set maker priority and see every price path live.
When a symbol has more than one maker, its Price source decides which price your takers receive. You set it per symbol, so gold and EURUSD can work differently.
The three modes
Set it in the symbol's settings under Price source:
| Mode | What takers receive |
|---|---|
| Single maker (highest priority) | The price of the highest priority maker with a fresh price |
| Best price across makers | The highest bid and the lowest ask among makers with a fresh price. They can come from different makers. |
| Priority with failover when stale | Your first choice maker. When its price goes stale the next one takes over, and the first comes back as soon as it is fresh again. |
Use best price for the tightest spreads when your makers are of similar quality. Use priority with failover when you have a preferred LP and want a backup, and you want to be told when the backup is in use.
Set the priority
Open the symbol and look at Sources. Each maker has a priority, P1 to P5: P1 is preferred, P2 is the first backup, and so on. Mapping a new maker to a symbol adds it as the next priority.
In failover mode the bridge checks on every price which maker comes first and is fresh, so switching to a backup and back again happens without any action from you.
What fresh means
A maker's price is fresh while it is younger than the symbol's Stale after setting, 5000 ms by default. A stale price is never sent as fresh, in any mode.
If no maker has a fresh price, nothing new is sent: takers keep the last price until a fresh one arrives.
Alerts when a feed goes quiet
Each security sets when a quiet symbol raises an alert: Warn after 10 seconds and Error after 30 by default, 15 and 60 for crypto. Each symbol learns its own normal pace and widens these limits if it usually ticks slowly.
In failover mode you are also told when a symbol moves to a backup maker and when it is back on the main one. While a symbol's market is closed, its alerts stay quiet.
See it live
Price path follows one symbol from each maker to each taker, refreshed every second:
- Liquidity providers: each maker's price, marked Used, Standby, Stale, No quote or Off
- Combined price: the mode, the price chosen and its spread
- Takers: what each taker is sent, with its markup, spread and any spike filter, tick boost or delay
Open it from Market watch or from a symbol on the Maker status page. To compare your makers over time, use LP comparison.
